![]() ![]() I just have a feeling that wall wart and car charger have far more to them - than just a transformer. Like I said - I'm not an EE but I don't think I want to hook any/all 12 Volt items that I have - to a straight 12V/10 amp or more circuit - without regulating what is available to each of them. Looking at my Car Charger for my Cell Phone- it seems to have far more circuitry involved than simply connecting the phone to the 12V car output. That or there has to be some type of resistor built into the system to regulate the available output in terms of Volts/Amps - so that you don't overheat the battery.įast Charge a Gel-Cell However in the case of rechargeable batteries for instance - if you make too high an amperage available at 12 Volts - it will flow though the battery and fry it - unless the fuse you use matches the desired amperage rating. * wouldnt mind aome security cameras at some point as well.Īgreed - you do not pump in amps. * Cell phone station ? (not sure if this would work but always looking for chargers for the stupid thing!) * 5 neon clocks assorted chevy ford pontiac I need to add up all of the amps needed, but so far The more i look the more useful this could be, my old alarm system has a 12 volt power supply also, had not gotten around to hooking it up yet, siren and light, so thats one more 12 volt supply, ![]() I just looked at the security camera supplys MRB mentioned, those look really promissing! I would think cameras would be really fussy about voltage right? they show 100 ft cables for them, my longest run would be maybe 50 depending on where I could locate the box. I have a new 100 ft roll of the heavy yard light wire, maybe i should hook it up and test voltage drop? genaric test but should work right? Good/Bad?Īnyone know how to calculate? most of the items i have checked so far have a low draw. I already have a lot of cat5 ran through the garage and house.īelow is a pic of the unit i bought for my yard light system, I am thinking of expanding it into the shop. Would cat 5 wire work? or would it need to be thermostat type? I am thinking of a 12 volt circut through the garage, with plug ins for batery pacs, clocks photo frames and all of my miss 12 volt junk. Menards and HD sell high capacity 12 volt transformers like the ones used on yard light systems, My question is how could you "safely" run 12 volt through the walls for pictures and things hanging on the walls?ĭoor bells are 12 volt, thermostats as well and they just use a small wire, no conduits no romex. to try to eliminate clutter we now have several of the new digital photo frames which have the same 12 volt transformer. I have several neon clocks, signs and odd 12 volt items, they all have these big ugly transformer packs to plug in and a courd to run up the wall. Has anyone combined there 12 volt items onto one 12 volt circut through the garage? I have a lot of items to hang up in the new shop, whish I would have thought of this sooner since drywall is up but still doable.
